Mental Health First Aid Training
The Standard MHFA course equips adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker, or another adult, experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
Gain a basic understanding of common mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, and suicidal thoughts or behaviours.
Learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of various mental health issues, including changes in behaviour, mood, thoughts, and feelings.
Develop skills to provide initial support and assistance to someone experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress, including effective communication techniques, active listening, and crisis de-escalation strategies.
Learn how to assess the risk of harm to oneself or others in a mental health crisis situation, including suicide risk assessment, and how to respond appropriately to mitigate these risks.
Gain knowledge of available mental health resources and services and learn how to encourage individuals to seek professional help and support from appropriate sources.
