As of 1 July this year, a number of private health funds are requiring oral health therapists, hygienists and dental therapists to have their own provider number if they wish to make a claim for services.

Following the introduction of access to provider numbers for oral health therapists, hygienists and dental therapists in July 2021, there is still ambiguity in relation to which funds are making it mandatory and which will still accept treatment performed by these practitioners under the provider number of the dentist.

The ADA is endeavoring to get a list of each individual fund arrangement but in the meantime, we strongly recommend that you check with your local contact for each fund as to their claiming requirements.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A PROVIDER NUMBER

There are no changes to the arrangements for treatments provided to eligible Australians under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as the same voluntary conditions remain in place with any mandatory requirements the preserve of a limited number of private health funds at this time.
