The ADA is now focusing particularly on operational sustainability as increased costs and supply chain issues impact dental practices across Australia.

Recent survey data from ADA members highlights the growing pressure on practices due to the combined challenge of the impact of the fuel crisis, and rising interest rates.

The survey, conducted through ADA’s online Consultation Hub, tracks concerns about:

- The financial impact of increases in delayed or missed appointments

- Increased freight and supply costs and vendor surcharging

- Cost of transport, including potential changes to vehicle allowances under the modern award

- Supply chain concerns, including impacts on PPE, dental supplies and medicines

The ADA is also aware of minor but emerging supply chain disruptions, affecting the availability and cost of PPR). While supply remains available, reports indicate price increases in the order of 15-25%, depending on the materials involved.

The ADA is strongly urging members not to engage in stockpiling of PPE or other essential supplies. While it is understandable that practices may seek to mitigate risk, stockpiling behaviour can place additional strain on supply chains, potentially triggering supplier responses such as purchasing caps. This, in turn, may exacerbate shortages and contribute to further price volatility. Similarly, rush ordering can intensify demand spikes, increasing the likelihood of disruption and cost escalation.

The ADA will continue to engage with industry partners and monitor developments closely and update members via the usual channels.
