Advanced Periodontal Instrumentation, Ergonomics & 2017 AAP Classification Review

Course Information

We will commence the course with a lecture offering reminders on the correct use and implementation of the 2017 AAP periodontal classifications. This will then follow on to a series of cases in a workshop. Participants will be given guidance laminates for them to keep which will assist in prompting them on the correct diagnosis for each case in the workshop and in their practice lives. This course will then move to provide qualified clinicians important reminders on correct operator ergonomics, seating “Clock” positions, correct patient positioning for treating anterior teeth, and posterior teeth on both the upper and lower arch for both supra and subgingival instrumentation. Both left and right-handed operators' needs will be catered for. We will review the correct instrument grasp and instrumentation techniques for both supra-gingival scaling and sub-lingual scaling with the Gracey curettes. Participants will be introduced to the American Eagle XP stay sharp technology and the “Double Gracey Curettes”. Finally, we will look at the “Quick Tip” technology where participants can select the tip they want and create their own “double ended” instrument to suit their working preferences.
