Congress

Perth, where Congress will be staged for the first time since 2009, has a dizzying range of options for exploring and relaxing before and after this landmark event. The city offers something for everyone, from shopping, restaurants, parks with hiking tracks, art galleries and museums. Perth is the ideal place to head for a superlative range of professional learning opportunities, as well as renewing old acquaintances and making new friends in a relaxed and convivial setting, and maybe even grab a long overdue holiday for yourself and family. Thanks to Congress’s friends at Business Events Perth, we’ve assembled a great selection of places to go and things to do.

Parks & hiking

Food Loose Tours
The lure of any great city is often its food and drinks, and Perth has plenty of both to tempt visitors. One of the great recommended ways to explore what’s on offer is with a local guide, who can advise on the food and the venues and what makes them special. Food Loose Tours promises “a delicious adventure that blends discovery
with unforgettable flavours”.

Mindful in nature
After all the welcome busyness of Congress, or to get your mind and body ready before it, why not go on a therapeutic nature-based wellness experience? Everything from therapy walks to nature journaling through to mindfulness and wellbeing workshops, all form a great way to chill out but also to explore the rich natural offerings of WA’s capital.

Hidden deTours
Cities rarely reveal all their secrets to a short-term visitor but one way to get to know Congress’s host city fast and with a surprising degree of familiarity, is with Hidden deTours which celebrates “the new, the hidden, and the different”. It’s a great way to get to know the arts and culture and hospitality scenes of this vibrant city.

Restaurants and wineries
From the Swan Valley to Margaret River and well beyond, this region offers an endless list of places, and food and wine to consume in stunning surroundings. Sample the very best of the ‘imaginative creations’ of world-class chefs, winemakers and brewers who use fresh local ingredients to craft truly memorable culinary experiences.

Arts & museums

Art Gallery of Western Australia
Placed right in the midst of Perth’s Cultural Centre, the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) has a wealth of art to explore, featuring more than two centuries of work by local and international artists. The Balancing Act gallery is particularly worth a visit, displaying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.

Aboriginal cultural experiences
WAITOC is the peak body for Aboriginal tours and experiences in Western Australia; their expansive range of culturally immersive tours allows visitors to “discover Western Australia’s ancient natural landscapes through the eyes of the Aboriginal people who have called this country home for more than 60,000 years”.

Dinosaur footprints
If you want to head further afield and spend some time with a truly ancient museum of natural wonders, head to Broome, up on the Kimberley Coast. The 130-millionyear- old journeys of dinosaurs can be clearly seen at low tide around Cable Beach, Gantheaume Point and Reddell Beach.
