Monash Health Dental Services (MHDS), based in Melbourne and which provides dental treatment under the guidelines of Dental Health Services Victoria, has been awarded "Best campaign by a dental practice or clinic" for their work "emphasizing [sic] the link between oral and cardiovascular health for World Oral Health Day".
MHDS, which has a focus on prevention and early intervention, was cited by the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) which runs World Oral Health Day (held 20th March every year) for the way in which their dental team undertook a wide range of oral health education and awareness-raising events during the week of the event.
These activities included:
- promotional display tables at dental clinics
- text messages to patients about the focus on oral and heart health
- dental check-ups at primary schools, and;
- a social media campaign.
Their efforts proved to be highly effective with 1,209 people reached, a group which included patients, students and children.
The award was among a range handed out by FDI which also recognised activities undertaken by the Tanzania Dental Association, the Dental Association of Thailand, the Manila Water Foundation and the Sudanese and Tunisian Dental Student Associations.
