Posterior Composites: Mastering Matrix Systems, Wedges and Proximal Contacts

Course Information

Posterior composite restorations can be technically challenging, particularly when restoring proximal surfaces. Achieving a tight, anatomically appropriate proximal contact and reproducing the correct emergence profile is highly dependent on using the appropriate tools and materials. This hands-on session will provide participants with practical experience using a range of sectional and circumferential matrix systems, with particular emphasis on understanding the advantages, limitations and clinical indications of each system. Matrix selection is a clinical decision. Participants will hopefully leave with an understanding of when to use a sectional matrix, when a traditional circumferential matrix may be preferable, and how wedge and separation systems can be modified according to the individual clinical situation. The hands-on component will allow participants to develop familiarity with Palodent, Garrison and Hawes/Tofflemire systems, rather than relying solely on theoretical knowledge or manufacturer demonstrations.
