As dentists we all know that we have a professional obligation to maintain dental records, but are you sure that your clinical notes would pass the standard set by the DBA and Ahpra? When a patient has made a notification to the regulator about your dental treatment, one of the first steps in the investigation process is for Ahpra to seek a full copy of the patient’s clinical records. In many cases, the initial complaint is resolved with no further action, but the dentist is required to undertake further education in the area of clinical record keeping. This presentation will show you the level of detail required to be recorded in your clinical notes and guide you to the appropriate professional resources and DBA documents that set the standard. Case studies will be shown where dentists have had their registration suspended, partly for failures in keeping appropriate dental records
