If you live in NSW or ACT - to access both your ADANSW Branch and ADA Federal member benefits you need to pay your ADANSW and ADA Federal membership fees separately. 

ADA Federal and ADANSW offer complementary benefits that support you at every stage of your professional life. We strongly encourage you to maintain both memberships so you can continue to receive the full breadth of ADA’s support. 

Eligibility - to join the ADA you must be an AHPRA registered dentist, or studying dentistry at an Australian university, or an Australian Dental Council (ADC) candidate, or a retired dentist.

Student COMPLIMENTARY Student

Studying dentistry full time - undergraduate or post-graduate - at an Australian University

ADC Candidate COMPLIMENTARY ADC Candidate

Currently preparing for the Australian Dental Council (ADC) exam

1st Year Graduate $328.90 1st Year Graduate

A dentist in their first year after graduation 

2nd Year Graduate $658.90 2nd Year Graduate

An active dentist in their 2nd year since graduation

Active Full Member $998.80 Active Full Member

A dentist - associate, practice owner or employee - who is employed more than 50 percent of the time

A dentist - associate, practice owner or employee - who is employed 16 hours or less per week

A dentist who is a full-time post-graduate student also in paid dental employment exceeding 385 hours per year

Registered dentists who have taken a leave of absence from paid employment, including parental leave.

Dentists living outside Australia can join ADA Federal direct.  See eligibility criteria in FAQs below.

Membership FAQs - Join ADA Federal

You will need to pay two separate invoices - one for ADA Federal and one for ADANSW.

When you join online, you will be asked to create a new account in the ADA Federal member portal, where you can access and pay your invoice.

Payment options:

  • Annual – Your ADA membership renews each year on 1 July.  
  • Instalments - You can pay in monthly instalments.
  • Auto-renewal - You can set your membership to automatically renew each year.

Can I only join ADA Federal?

As the peak body for dentistry, we are stronger together.

Technically you could only join ADA Federal direct, however you will miss out on your Branch's valuable member benefits and community.  

To access both Branch and Federal member benefits, you will need to pay both membership fees separately.  

How long will it take for my membership to be active?

After payment is received, please allow up to 5 working days to access full member benefits.

If you have not received access after 5 working days, or if you require immediate access, please contact us.

 

ADA offers complimentary membership for dentistry students:

  • Undergraduate student studying full-time at an Australian university.
  • Full-time post-graduate students including students who are also in paid dental employment for less than 385 hours per year.
  • Australian Dental Council (ADC) candidates studying for your registration exam.  Once you are a registered dentist you can join as a fee-paying member

Graduates

Graduand membership is free within the same financial year that you graduate from studying dentistry at university. Then graduate membership rates are reduced for your first year and second year following graduation, to support your transition into the workforce.

The ADA offers a reduced part-time membership rate for dentists employed 16 hours per week or less.

If you are changing from part-time to full time work please get in touch to change your membership category.

Yes, you can receive complimentary ADA membership while you are taking parental leave or a leave of absence.

I am returning to full-time study

You may be eligible for complimentary ADA membership while you are undertaking full-time post-graduate studies, if you are also in paid dental employment for less than 385 hours per year.

Please contact the ADA Membership team for help choosing the right membership category for your circumstance, or to update your category and membership fee. 

Please contact your current state ADA Branch who can arrange to transfer your membership for you. 

No, a practice cannot join the ADA. First the individual dentist who owns the practice joins the ADA, then we add their practice to the system and link it to their ADA Member profile.

The Practice Manager can then contact ADA to access benefits and support on their behalf.
