The power of ADA membership was evident at the “Unpacking TG4” afternoon with the ADA's Dental Therapeutic Committee last Saturday 18 July at the University of Melbourne.

Billed as “an informative and interactive afternoon of education”, the ADA’s roadshow event, “Unpacking TG4” attracted hundreds of ADA members eager to hear from the experts of the Association’s Dental Therapeutic Committee (DTC).

Popularly known by dental practitioners as “the Clown Book” thanks to its playfully idiosyncratic cover, the Therapeutic Guidelines: Oral and Dental is an indispensable part of dental practice. The “Unpacking TG4” CPD event aimed “to equip dental practitioners with the confidence and knowledge required to optimise patient safety and align their practice with the latest Australian guidelines” through a mix of presentations by DTC members and two Q&A sessions.

An attentive crowd, which filled the University of Melbourne’s Copland Lecture Theatre at the Spot, heard from every member of the DTC including Dr Matthew Lim, Dr Smitha Sukumar, Dr Jessica Leung and Dr Joon Soo (Alex) Park and A/Prof. Ramesh Balasubramaniam OAM, with the overall event moderated by DTC Chair, A/Prof. Sue-Ching Yeoh over the course of four information-rich hours.

Proof that the event delivered on the promise to “solidify understanding of changes to the Therapeutic Guidelines: Oral and Dental Version 4” came with feedback from a number of enthusiastic respondents who praised the “excellent panel and presentations [with the] topic discussed very relevant to dental practice” and the “passionate” presenters delivering “concise and informative lectures [with lots of} practical advice”.

All active Federal members for the 2025-26 financial year should already have a copy of TG4 which was sent out with the June issue of the ADA’s News Bulletin magazine, and additional copies are also available to purchase, with students and ADC Candidates able to buy a physical copy to accompany their digital-only access.
