World Cavity-Free Future Day 2025 asks “WHO else cares about cavities?”

- Oral health
This year’s global event is championing the World Health Organization’s declaration that there is “No health without Global Health” and promoting its worldwide implementation.

As part of the ADA’s commitment to promoting good oral health, both nationally, and through its long-term membership of the FDI World Dental Federation, it is once again marking World Cavity-Free Future Day (WCFFD).
WCFFD is a global awareness day, first launched by the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF) in 2016, taking place on 14th October every year.
The theme of this year’s event has been inspired by the actions of the World Health Organization (WHO) over the last 12 months during which it staged the first ever WHO global oral health meeting where WHO Member States adopted the Bangkok Declaration - “No Health Without Oral Health”.
This declaration and the Global strategy and action plan on oral health 2023–2030 contain several actions which individuals, organisations and others can help carry out to improve tooth decay, oral health and health.
So, for #WCFFday 2025, ACFF is championing the WHOs Global Oral Health Action Plan and promoting its implementation globally with the following key action items:
1. Focus on key settings – promote oral health and oral disease prevention in preschools, schools, care homes, workplaces.
2. Improve the personal skills of those in these settings by promoting good oral health behaviours such as twice-daily brushing and daily flossing.
3. Consider how to engage those with hand mobility issues such as young children, those with disabilities, elderly people.
4. Campaign for positive changes: Ban or reduce the availability of sugar sweetened products, offer healthy food & drink only, prohibit alcohol or tobacco use on-site.
Participating dental professionals can make use of social media assets created for WCFFD 2025 and tag @ACFFglobal and use the hashtags: #CareAboutCavities #WCFFday #ACFFglobal.
The ADA has a range of oral health resources available to members via Teeth.org.au which features all the trustworthy and up-to-date information your patients need to maintain a healthy mouth and keep their smile for life!
