ADA’s Australian Dental Journal substantially improves global ranking

The official journal of the ADA, the Australian Dental Journal (ADJ), edited by Professor Ivan Darby, who is in turn supported by a world-class editorial team, has risen further still up the global rankings of journals in the Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine category.

Building on the 2024 ranking of 51/163, the ADJ has now risen to 40/164, accompanied by an impressive rise in usage with the 2025 Impact Factor of 3.3, the highest rise in its history, and a sizeable step-up from the 2024 ranking of 2.4. To provide context, the Impact Factor is the frequency with which the “average article” in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period.

The overall rise in ranking lifts the journal from a Q2 (top 50% of journals) to a Q1 (top 25% of journals) position, with the higher the category reflecting the quality of the publication.

The metric measures the influence and significance of the journal and reflects the hard work and diligence that goes into its creation and the world-class quality of the researchers in Australia who contribute the papers.

Published quarterly, the ADJ publishes papers on research, clinical developments, clinical opinions and treatments and other key issues relevant to the practice of dentistry in Australia.
